Virtual Workshop: Fall Prevention

June 6 @ 9:00 am - 12:15 pm EDT

Event Description

Session Date: Thursday, June 6, 2024

Session Time: 9:00 AM – 12:15 PM (UTC-04:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

This program will be held on Zoom, and will not be available on-demand.

We’ve exhausted the same old fall prevention list. Learn how to create a proactive fall reduction culture – by all – as falls do not belong to nursing. Teach everyone they can proactively prevent falls. Turn rigid into flexible schedules to honor sleep. Being well rested and matching one’s circadian rhythm leads to fewer falls as well as many other positive health benefits. Open dining times support natural awakening. Replace old, institutional “interventions” with individualized approaches and proactive practices in each individual’s care plan. Regulations support these commonsense practices. Join the movement to reject and replace institutional culture with home and normal life, including a good night’s sleep.

Learner Objectives:

  1. List at least six proactive practices to prevent falls.
  2. Select at least one practice to implement.
  3. Implement one’s personal practice of using normal language instead of institutional language during the training.
  4. Differentiate between reactive/passive practices and proactive/anticipatory practices.
  5. Defend commonsense proactive practices with CMS federal regulations.
  6. Design a plan to teach the wider team.

Nurse Learner Outcome:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will self-report a knowledge gain of the proactive practices that can be used to prevent falls on the post session evaluation.
