New CE rule for Precepting

The administrative rule allowing CEs to be given for hours of precepting. As of March 8, 2019, nurse precepting students or new employees may receive 5 CEs after 120 hours of precepting. The hours must be tracked. For student precepting, a letter from the school acknowledging the hours must be in the preceptor’s file; if precepting a new employee, the letter must come from the employer. The 5 CEs can only be used once during the 2-year license cycle, then the 120 hours begin again. The 120 can also be a combination of student and new employee precepting.  Facilities are creating tracking documents to help the nurse preceptors keep track of their hours.
